Mourning had a terrific rookie season, averaging 21 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 blocks a game. Only Shaquille O'Neal was picked ahead of Mourning. 2 overall by the Hornets back in the 1992 draft. He was also selected to the All-NBA Third Team. He was selected to the 1997 All-NBA Defensive Team. Mason was also a great defensive player for the team. Mason's first season as a Hornet was his best season. Yes, in Robert Parish's 21 year NBA career he did play for the Charlotte Hornets. He averaged double digits in points, grabbed monster boards, blocked shots, and was a force in the paint that not many could move over. Overall he did play decent for the Hornets-no Kobe Bryant, but decent enough in his two seasons.Ĭoleman, who cam over during the 1998-1999 season, was a big body down low for the Hornets. Wesley and Davis created one of the best back courts in their young days.ĭivac was known for being the player we got in return for Kobe Bryant on draft night. It was not the flashiest thing out there, but he played great defense and chipped in on the offensive side.ĭavid Wesley was a great shooting guard, and savvy veteran for the Hornets. He also made an All-Star appearance in 2004.īrown was a good power forward in this league. Magloire averaged 10 points, eight rebounds and one block a game. His best seasons were playing as a Hornet, then he left and made stupid decision after stupid decision. Magloire was a great center for the Hornets. He even made one All-Star appearance as a Hornet in 2003. Mashburn played four seasons for the Hornets and was a great player for the team, averaging 21 points and six rebounds a game. The list ranges from scoring machines, to three point specialists, to turn over creators, to players that came out ever night and just gave it their all for the Hornets. So, with that brief history of Hornets basketball, I am going to give you a list compiling the greatest players to have had the privilege of putting on that Hornets uniform. Now, yet another new crop of players are here: Chris Paul, David West, Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza-all trying to rebuild the playoff success the Hornets once had. So the Hornets moved to New Orleans, where they now reside. The Hornets were left with nothing, and decided a change of scenery was a must. Then once again those payers became all-stars and they were again packing their bags and off in a new direction. Brown and Jamal Mashburn all made their Hornets debuts. Then in the late 1990s and early 2000s another new crop of players came along. And in came a new crop of players: Glen Rice and Vlade Divac to name a few. Those three left or were traded after a few season of success. The team looked very promising with those three players on the roster, plus already having Muggsy Bogues and Dell Curry on the roster.īut, like nowadays, expansion teams and low market teams do not not go hand in hand with top notch players. They used those three picks to draft Kendall Gill, Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning. Starting through the drafts is the way for any expansion team to improve: the Hornets had the fifth overall pick in 1990, the first overall pick in 1991, and the second overall pick in 1992 They struggled at first, like many expansion teams do. The Charlotte Hornets were founded back in 1988. We can cache the actual value that the user provided! Cool Food – A Guide to Japan’s Culinary Summer.Spectacular, large-scale fireworks displays are held in the summer months throughout Japan. This is followed by screaming cicadas (“semi” / “セミ”) and intense heat and humidity that peaks in August-watch out for mould. Summer kicks off with the dreary rainy season (“tsuyu” / “梅雨”) from June to July, during which hydrangea (“ajisai” / “アジサイ”) blossoms can be seen shrouded in mist. By May, temperatures are comfortable and vegetation has grown lush. The mild spring season brings out Japan’s beautiful cherry blossoms (“sakura” / “桜”), which are enjoyed from late March through April throughout the country. The plum blossoms (“ume” / “梅”) bloom in late February, signaling that a welcome spring is around the corner. Besides enjoying seasonal recreation and events during a year in Japan, also pay attention to the concept of “shun” (旬), which celebrates seasonal food such as fish, fruits, and vegetables, at the peak of its deliciousness. The emphasis on seasonality that permeates every aspect of Japanese culture can be traced to its nature-based Shinto religion and agrarian past. In their present form, they offer a poetic journey through the Japanese year in which the land awakens and blooms with life and activity before returning to slumber. The names were also originally taken from China, but they did not always match up well with the local climate. The 24 divisions are each split again into three for a total of 72 kō that last around five days each. Originally taken from Chinese sources, these are still well-known around East Asia. There are 24 major divisions, or sekki, from Risshun (Beginning of spring) in early February until Daikan (Greater cold). It’s rare for a user to go between all three programs it’s likely that whichever you pick will be what you end up using for gigs. All three programs take time, practice, and dedication to master, just like any instrument. VirtualDJ is the best option of the three when it comes to file management and video capabilities, but it’s not easier to learn than Ableton or Serato. This mode is excellent for composing and layering with more precision. The Arrangement view, by contrast, lists tracks vertically and expands them for minute tweaks and adjustments. These can be mixed, paused, looped, filtered, and adjusted for volume in real-time. The Session view bears resemblance to VirtualDJ’s interface, showing an array of tracks in horizontal order. On Windows, a quick click of the Tab button switches between the two. Rather than flashy visuals or a silky smooth UI, Ableton’s strengths lie in its Session views and Arrangement. Compared to both options, Ableton is similar but different. This way you can still use VirtualDJ’s superior visuals and live playing options even if your mix was made with Serato. Anything crafted in Serato’s more spartan interface can also be performed live via VirtualDJ. Local music from Serato’s Crates can be pulled directly into VirtualDJ for easy access. Rather than capitalize and expound upon their differences, however, VirtualDJ wisely decided to instead integrate Serato with their own product: The streamlined interface makes it easy to alter and switch up tracks on the spot, giving it a leg up over VirtualDJ’s more complex, claustrophobic layout. While its selection is not as robust as VirtualDJ, Serato does have some capacity for live playing. It also offers all manner of mixing, scratching, and support for third-party controllers. Like VirtualDJ, Serato enables users to mix music stored or streamed from their personal computer. However, that’s not necessarily the case. All three are popular Digital Audio Workstations used worldwide, and offer the diverse functionality and powerful tools needed to create and arrange all kinds of music. In normal circumstances, Serato and Ableton would appear to be VirtualDJ’s fiercest competitors. It’s even compatible with Serato’s Crates. You can access content from anywhere on your PC, from hard drives to iTunes. On Windows, it’s also great for organizing your track collection, as it integrates seamlessly with native folders. Namely, it can implement cross-fades, tweaks to track speed, SFX, and cues logically. Some of this mixer software’s capabilities are better executed than others. This has led to the addition of new features and simplified the process for beginners to get acclimated. The DAW has been consistently updated and improved based on user feedback. For 20 years it’s been an introductory milestone for over 132 million people. Since the default version is free, VirtualDJ is a great platform for any aspiring DJ to start with. Videoskins can also be set to stream on Facebook or YouTube. For karaoke night this can also be set to display song lyrics. It plays a full-screen show to enhance (or juxtapose) the music you’re playing and adds a new layer to performance possibilities. Recent updates have also outfitted VirtualDJ with videoskins that run slideshows, album art, or any other pictures during a live set. The visuals can even react to the beat and frequency of the audio. It saves you from having to download music videos in advance, and provides a decent variety of visual options to complement whichever track is playing. It’s especially helpful to DJs who are tasked with being the center of attention and keeping the room entertained. The visual features of VirtualDJ is unique and sets it apart from other software of the same ilk. This impressive array of visuals enhances the performance experience, furthering creative control beyond just tweaking and modifying audio tracks on the spot. While it may not be immediately intuitive, VirtualDJ also has an event schedule option that assists in synchronizing music, videos, and images. For would-be composers and arrangers, there are more efficient options, such as FL Studio or Cubase. Similar to Ableton, VirtualDJ prioritizes professionally live streaming music (thus the name) over composition and recording. Other features, such as syncing tracks to a common tempo, are buried behind menus. It conveniently covers the bases with its fundamental tools, such as controller integration and real-time volume mixing. With enough poking, prodding, and consulting FAQ pages, you will be able to use the software to manipulate audio in whatever you need. Some of VirtualDJ’s components are harder to pick up than others. Cells are darker if they’re oxygen-deprived, and by measuring the color of your blood cells, the sensor can give a percentage of oxygen saturation. Oximeters that attach to the finger-the last time you were at the doctor, a nurse might have taped one to your pointer-takes a reading by measuring the light that goes all the way through the fingertip. See the array of LEDs on the back? That’s the sensor. Wrist-mounted devices, like the new Fitbit and Apple Watch, measure light that is reflected back into the sensor. Oximeters take measurements differently depending on where they are placed on the body. How do I actually determine my blood oxygen level? Look, I just skipped past all that explainery stuff. You should always consult with a doctor before relying on any information gleaned from a device to make critical decisions about your health. There are a whole host of signs and symptoms that can indicate that someone has contracted the virus. Conversely, if a device isn’t taking readings properly, a seemingly normal SpO2 rating might belie other underlying problems and give wearers a false sense of security. It’s important to note that an abnormal SpO2 rating alone isn’t enough to diagnose Covid, or any other illness. Medical institutions have issued wearables to Covid patients that let them monitor their own blood oxygen levels from home. Oxygen levels can dip without the patient noticing, allowing pneumonia to develop undetected. As we’ve seen in recent days, blood oxygen levels are one of the most important indicators of how well someone who has Covid-19 is coping with the virus. Even in the early days of the pandemic, demand for pulse oximeters exploded as people were eager to monitor themselves or loved ones for Covid-19 any way they could. This eventually led to their album Cruisin' On Hawaiian Time (2006), a collection of songs dedicated to the Hawaiian Islands. After leaving Southern Pacific in 1989, Jenkins relocated to Hawaii where he was introduced to Hawaiian artist Kapono Beamer and began writing music with him. Jenkins moved on to join country rockers Southern Pacific in 1987, alongside former Doobie Brothers members Keith Knudsen and John McFee and Creedence Clearwater Revival bass player Stu Cook. It was not to be, however, and the group called it quits in 1986. In 1985 the four original members, Jenkins, Lerios, Price and Cockrell, reunited hoping to score a new record deal. By the end of 1984, Pierce, Birnbaum and Bermudez had left and the group's contract with A&M had come to end.ġ985 attempted reunion and hiatus Mostly due to the rising popularity of new wave, the album struggled with sales. The band then toured again that year with another new member, Jorge Bermudez, on vocals and percussion. In 1983 the group released Out of Our Hands, which featured a change of sound to a more "'80s pop keyboard direction", with Lerios bringing in more synthesizers and downplaying the piano, which had until then been a characteristic of the group's sound, and Price played drums on two songs. David Perper was next to take over the drum throne and Angelo Rossi was replaced by Stef Birnbaum (aka Stef Burns) after just one album. In mid-1981, Price left suddenly and was initially succeeded by Donny Baldwin, who had played with Elvin Bishop and would move on to Jefferson Starship by the summer of 1982. Also that year, Pablo Cruise contributed the song "Reach For The Top" to the movie Dreamer and the following year, they placed "What've You Got To Lose" with the film Inside Moves.ĭay's tenure was short-lived and after he left the band in 1980, he was replaced by the session bassist John Pierce who, alongside newly added second guitarist Angelo Rossi, debuted on the 1981 album Reflector, and it spawned the band's last Top 40 hit " Cool Love". It also featured a cover of Australian singer-songwriter Peter Allen's hit single " I Go to Rio" and the follow-up album was 1979's Part of the Game that spawned the hit "I Want You Tonight". ĭay's first album with the band was the RIAA platinum-selling 1978 album Worlds Away, which spawned the hits " Love Will Find a Way" and "Don't Want to Live Without It". In the middle of 1977, Bud Cockrell left to form a duo with his wife and former It's a Beautiful Day bandmate, Pattie Santos, and was replaced by Bruce Day (who had played in a band with Carlos Santana before his Santana days). 6) and the title track " A Place in the Sun" (No. ġ977's A Place in the Sun was the turning point in the band's career, as they finally entered the mainstream music scene with hit singles " Whatcha Gonna Do?" The instrumental "Zero to Sixty in Five" from Lifeline was used as theme music for various sports television shows. Their second album achieved slightly greater success than their first, but still only managed to chart at No. The band signed to A&M Records and released its first album in August 1975, a minor success self-titled Pablo Cruise, and their second album in April 1976, titled Lifeline. When asked the question, the band, which is a quartet, would answer, "He's the guy in the middle." When asked what Pablo Cruise meant, the band would say that "Pablo represents an honest, real, down- to-earth individual and Cruise depicts his fun-loving and easygoing attitude towards life." Initially, many fans assumed that Pablo Cruise was the name of one of the members of the band. They were eventually to find their way into Stoneground, where they were joined by Jenkins (originally from Ypsilanti, Michigan). His classmate, Steve Price, signed on as a roadie (because he owned a van), then joined the group on drums when their drummer left. Lerios had formed a band while at Palo Alto High School. Pablo Cruise began in San Francisco, in 1973, with former members of Stoneground ( Cory Lerios on keyboards and vocals, David Jenkins as vocalist and on guitar and Steve Price on drums) and It's a Beautiful Day ( Bud Cockrell on bass and vocals). The original lineup-Jenkins, Lerios, Price and Bud Cockrell-reunited briefly in 2004, and the group continues to tour today with two out of the original four members present. The group underwent several personnel changes and split up in 1986. Formed in 1973, the band released eight studio albums over the next decade, during which time five singles reached the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Pablo Cruise is an American pop/ rock band from San Francisco currently composed of David Jenkins ( guitar and vocals), Cory Lerios ( keyboards and vocals), Sergio Gonzalez ( drums), Larry Antonino ( bass and vocals) and Robbie Wyckoff ( vocals and percussion).
